Back to basics with the butcher’s stripe.

Barbecoa in the City of London is the creation of British chef Jamie Oliver.  Working with Design Research Studio, renowned designer Tom Dixon’s interior and architectural practice built the interior of this up-market eatery to reflect the concept of barbecue cooking with charcoal, smoke and flame — primitive cooking but with standards always on the menu.

The collaboration between famous chef and famous designer meant that the identity needed to be iconic. For us, the graphic concept had to marry with the simplicity of great barbecue cooking — about getting back to basics, stripping back the essentials, letting the core ingredient — in this case typography — be powerful in its simplicity.
