THE IDEA

Design District needed a brand identity as unique as it is ambitious. Our strategic platform, “a hub for unexpected cultural connections,” inspired a brand expression and experience that evokes a sense of a place, with a multidimensional graphic system that invites exploration.

True to our insight, we adopted one of the strategic codes of hype brands: Act like you’ve been here and let culture follow. So, for an iconoclastic brand in the making, we crafted an iconic mark in the form of a D that floats and transforms in space. We built out the visual brand world with unique typography, art direction, colour palette, and composition. All these elements came to life in the website that we designed for the brand.

For the launch, we put our brand system to work. We wrote a tagline that captures both the practical reality of the offering and the essential ambition of Design District with creative flair: “A magazine and marketplace for uncommon creativity, objects and ideas.” In addition to building the brand and in partnership with Design District’s editorial team, we led the creative direction for the magazine and crafted a launch campaign that built excitement around the brand and the world that it inhabits.
