THE BOTHY AT HECKFIELD PLACE

This month, Heckfield Place opens the doors to its highly anticipated wellness space. Nestled amongst the wildlife in the idyllic grounds of the Georgian estate sits the Bothy.

The original function of a bothy was a place for protection and shelter—a refuge against the sun, the weather, and the seasons. A “restorative” place for both body and mind, it is a space to return us to a simpler time—a slower time. Connecting us more deeply to the movement and rhythms of the sun and moon, it is an antidote to modern living, allowing deeper connections to ourselves, to each other and to our natural surroundings.

As part of our brand identity work for Heckfield Place, the Bothy perfectly captures the location’s essence, creating a serene and healing environment. Offering rituals and treatments worlds apart from the machine-based, chemical-intensive approach of modern day–instead finding inspiration from the natural world and ancient practices such as kinesiology or naturopathy to recentre oneself.

The Bothy will be home to the hotel's botanical skincare line, Wildsmith Skin, which Made Thought developed in collaboration with the Heckfield Place team in 2019. Inspired by the plants and botanicals grown in the hotel’s grounds in the nineteenth century, Wildsmith Skin is natural, effective and clinically proven skincare, reflecting Heckfield's guiding principle of respecting the interconnected nature of people and planet. The products are even stored in fully compostable Mycelium packaging to ensure a return to earth.
